"To speak means to be in a position to use a certain syntax, to grasp the morphology of this or that language, but it means above all to assume a culture, to support the weight of a civilization". - Frantz Fanon

The Drammeh Institute, Inc. supports the development and preservation of the moving image in independent film & video and recorded performances that provide insights into the culture, art and politics, of populations under-represented in mainstream society.

Our mission is to engage projects that merge scholarly or ethno-classical traditions, with grassroots interpretations, in a way that is human to human, as opposed to a human to textbook fashion. We believe this arrangement is best suited to reach us where we live, as we examine who we are, where we have been, what we hold precious and why.

In addition to facilitating support for humanities-based projects, we are committed to investing in talent by providing exhibition and distribution opportunities to moving image makers who expose chronicles about various aspects of culture in society.

Support Activities Include

• Promote interest in the moving image of independent projects through, exhibitions and new media workshops

• Secure acquisitions of moving image resources for applied research

• Preserve moving images for future study and educational purposes

• Train project developers how to assemble research around a moving image project

• Organize events to commemorate historic and new media projects

• Network with community groups and neighboring education programs on related topics
