The Drammeh Institute
is a not for profit 501(c)(3) registered New York State Charity, member of the Association of Moving Image Archivists
and International Council on Archives (Conseil International Des Archives).
Since 1993, we have collected
media on regional historiographies of the black experience that created pathways for collaborations with award-winning independent
documentary filmmakers. These valued relationships allow us to develop documentary projects internally.
Since our media accreditation
to cover the UN World Conference Against Racism, in Durban, South Africa, 2001, we continue to monitor outcomes that clarify and build on compelling
examinations of race relations through the critical lenses of social scientists, activists and artists from diverse backgrounds.
Some additional records developed internally include:
- Primary accounts of defenders of human rights in Sudan and Mauritania.
- Testimonies on modern chattel and sexual slavery, used in preparation of the United Nations Working Group on Contemporary
Forms of Slavery, held before the Human Rights Commission in, Geneva,
Switzerland.
Under the rubric of recording,
collecting and preserving histories, the Institute has provided its members the opportunity to peruse private holdings to
further their research on productions. It is hopeful that this access encourages moving image programmers, whenever, and wherever
appropriate, to offer fair demonstrations of culturally centered ideas in the body of their works.
